A Taste of SOS's Experience...

Strategic Planning

Wild Steelhead Coalition - SOS assessed the current strategic plan and surveyed board members, founders and volunteers to determine level of agreement with the current organizational goals and operations. Facilitated a visioning and strategy session and helped the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop implementation steps to achieve their goals and increase funding.

Suquamish Tribe - In partnership with The Whitener Group, SOS facilitated a half-day strategic session that set the stage for all participants to feel comfortable providing feedback and opened them to the potential of the Suquamish Tribe. The session resulted in a revised set of core values, revised vision and revised mission. In follow up to the Tribal Council session, the Deputy Director asked TWG to facilitate a 2-day session to explore the concept of an integrated family services model at the Tribe. The outcome of the session was a draft list of core values, vision and mission to guide the integration process as well as a draft work plan with short term and long term tasks identified. TWG is scheduled to facilitate a subsequent session in October 2015.

SeaVuria -
SOS guided the Executive team of SeaVuria through a visioning session to identify barriers to growth, worked with the Executive Director on a strategy to sustain the organization through the expansion in program services and facilitated a full-day strategic planning session that resulted in a more focused and committed Board of Directors.

Potlatch Fund - In partnership with The Whitener Group, SOS facilitated a 2 ½ day community conversation that brought together people from all aspects of Tribal Journeys to discuss the sustainability of the Journeys and how to ensure the core elements of the Journeys were preserved. We received very positive feedback from the participants of this session, which is notable because it was a diverse crowd with many different voices and overall goals.

Samish Tribe - In partnership with The Whitener Group, SOS
facilitated a strategic planning and economic development 2-day session with the Samish Tribal Council. The first day and a half was spent revising the existing core values, vision and mission of the Tribe and pulling those guiding concepts through to the goals and strategies of a 5-year strategic plan. The last ½ day was spent on economic development strategy. In follow up to the Tribal Council session, the Council asked TWG to return for a one day facilitated session with Tribal staff and Tribal Council. The goal of the session was to work through the draft 5-year strategic plan as a team and gather feedback from staff on the timeline for completion of goals and potential implementation constraints.

Capacity Building

City Fruit - SOS provided capacity building and fundraising consulting to help City Fruit grow their impact through their Board of Directors and program implementation. SOS also worked on-the-ground with City Fruit's West Seattle Harvest program providing operational efficiency, brand awareness, social media presence and business partnership facilitation. SOS Founder, Betsy Moyer, currently volunteers on City Fruit's Board of Directors.

Salmon Defense - In partnership with LaunchPad Consulting, SOS was retained
to help create a dynamic organization dedicated to carrying on the legacy of Billy Frank Jr. through the creation and implementation of a 5-year strategic plan. SOS and LaunchPad are working with Salmon Defense on developing program initiatives, sustainable fundraising strategies, implementing marketing and PR campaigns as well as educational, advocating and litigation support activities.

Organizational, Development and Event Planning Guidance

First Stewards - SOS Supported the strategic growth of the indigenous-led nonprofit, First Stewards; with the culmination of the project being the 2014 First Stewards Symposium in July 2014. Led a strategic visioning session with the Board of Directors.

Puget Soundkeeper Alliance - SOS Founder, Betsy Moyer, grew Puget Soundkeeper's annual fundraising event revenue by 60% through a three-pronged strategy of brand development, sponsor cultivation and Board involvement. After handing over the structure and control of the event to the incoming Development Director, the event generated $143,000 proving a successful transition and laying the foundation for sustainable funding.

Event Branding and Growth

Literacy Bridge - Along with the Literacy Bridge executive team, SOS developed the foundation of a new annual event for Literacy Bridge that showcases the organization's mission and impact to key supporters. With SOS's involvement, the event attracted more attendees than in the past and raised 300% more revenue than expected the first year.
